CNET: Dolby Dimension headphones review HD

So yay or nay on Dolby's first consumer product?

Check out David Carnoy's favorite noise-cancelling headphone of the year so far, the Sony WH-1000XM3:

This Seems Perfect for the Television side of Things.
Films that heavily relies on Audio/Visuals
Deeply Immersive Interactive Experiences (video games)

And that’s all I could think of, I would love this headset.

How about comfort level??? Can you wear these for 3 hours without any tenderness on the ears????

Still 600$ is costly

$600 and 10 hours of battery life? GTFO Dolby

So as I look around the web no reviewer is going to admit this thing is overpriced. Just because dolby says this isnt meant to be used outside the home doesn't mean it has no competition. Sony 1000XM3, bose QC35, and Surface headphones are all products that compete with this, and all cost 250 bucks less.

Let's slow down for a second and assess this rationally:
— Micro USB rather than USB C in late 2018 (bordeline 2019)
— A carrying «case» that's actually a flimsy non-protective carrying bag
— 10 meagre hours of battery life (and that's just Dolby's estimate — it may be less in real-life usage)
— Only 2 hours of battery life for 15 minutes of charging (Sony WH-1000XM3: 5 hours for 10 minutes)
— The company itself claims it's only for home use (thus implying real-world limitations and also making this product appealing to only a very niche group of people. Admittedly, most people purchase their noise-cancelling headphones for use «on the go»)
— Noise-cancellation far from industry-leading as per reviews (Sony & Bose run the ANC show as of now)
— Quite heavy: exceed 300g — I cannot comment on comfort since I haven't tested them.
— Did I mention micro USB in 2019?
— $600 just because they're «Dolby» and think they can get away with slapping a ridiculous price on their first headphones despite the aforementioned shortcomings.
I'll stick with the Sony WH-1000XM3 & Bose QC35II (I have both and recommend both — the 1000XM3 I'd recommend over the QC35II for everything except microphone quality).

Micro usb!? WTF

Lets hope generation 2 comes sooner rather than later. Perfect for a fire station or at home where you still need to hear things.
